Space and As­troid Min­ing: What chal­lenges are brought about by bring­ing re­sources from space into our eco­nom­ic system? 

Ad­vances in aero­nau­tic tech­nol­o­gy and flight sys­tem tech­nolo­gies open space for large-scale op­er­a­tions and en­able min­ing and ex­trac­tion of raw ma­te­ri­als such as iron, gold, sil­ver, pal­la­di­um or plat­inum from As­troids or oth­er near-earth plan­ets and space ob­jects, which in turn could be brought back to earth. 

In this from-student-to-student talk, Mr. Ro­man Polyakov will in­tro­duce us to these fas­ci­nat­ing new op­por­tu­ni­ties and chal­lenges. How does the mining/extraction tech­nique work? What are the pro­posed min­ing project and tar­gets? What about the safe­ty? What are the eco­nom­ic im­pli­ca­tions? — Are we en­ter­ing a world of abun­dance? What about the space econ­o­my, the cur­rent largest space min­ing com­pa­nies and reg­u­la­to­ry system?
